Come out and be a part of Canada's largest conference for Catholic youth called Steubenville Toronto, which is now in its fifth year and will be held during July 13-15, 2018 at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) located at 2000 Simcoe Street North right here in Oshawa!
WHAT IS STEUBENVILLE?
The Franciscan University of Steubenville hosted its first Steubenville Youth Conference in 1976, when 1,000 youth and young adults gathered for a weekend of prayer, praise, and reflection. In the summer of 2013, more than 40,000 teens participated in 18 different Steubenville youth conferences across North America.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
People can attend the conference as a Youth, a Chaperone, a Leader or a Volunteer.
Youth who will be in Grade 9 in September 2018 up to those who will be graduating high school by the end of 2018 can attend Steubenville Toronto.
All youth who register for the conference must be accompanied at all times by adult chaperones who must at least 21 years old. There must be a minimum of one adult chaperone per ten youth of the same gender. For example, if there are 20 youth including 12 women and eight men, three chaperones would be required (two women and one man). Chaperones cannot be shared between groups. Chaperones may also be asked to facilitate group activities and ensure that the young people remain engaged and participate in the conference proceedings. Chaperones are also responsible (along with group leaders) for night time supervision of their own participants.
If you have finished high school, and are not old enough to be a chaperone, you can attend the conference as the leader of a small group of youth, although the group will still require a minimum number of adult chaperones.
Volunteers do not have to pay to help out at Steubenville Toronto, and are not required to stay on campus for the duration of the conference (although a fee of $20 per night is required, if volunteers would prefer to do so). Volunteers will need to provide a reference upon request, which can include friends, coworkers and your parish priest, although only one of your three references is allowed to be a family member. Please contact email@example.com for further information about how to be a volunteer.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO ATTEND THE PROGRAM?
For youth participants, chaperones and group leaders, there are two options for registration fees:
(a) ALT #1 (registration with accommodations): $275 per person, which includes admission to the three-day event, six meals (Friday dinner to Sunday lunch) and accommodations for the Friday and Saturday nights of the conference.
(b) ALT #2 (registration without accommodations – a.k.a. "commuter rate"): $225 per person, which includes admission to the three-day event, six meals (Friday dinner to Sunday lunch) but no accommodations on campus.
However, the "commuter rate" option (registration without accommodations) is available only to entire groups only. In other words, all members of the group must commute to and from the conference, and no individual participants from a commuting group will be permitted to sleep on campus.
Again, volunteers are not required to pay to assist at the conference.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
The organizers of the conference do not allow for individual registration. As such, our parish office will go online to register all interested youth participants and adult chaperones to reserve a "block" of spaces at the conference by paying a non-refundable, non-transferrable deposit fee of $75 per person. As we will be registering through the parish, please pay by cash or cheque payable to "St. Joseph the Worker Parish".
If you are interested, please return a completed copy of the attached registration form (with the $75 deposit fee) to the Parish Office by Fri. June 1, 2018. Limited spaces are available and fill up quickly. Please register early to reserve your spot!
The remaining balance for each participant will be due by Fri. June 22, 2018. All payments which are not paid by the group by the final deadline will be subject to a 10% late fee.
