Novena to the Holy Spirit

Przesłane : May-20-2022

Dear parishioners and friends,

the solemnity of the Pentecost is coming soon. On Sunday June 5 the church celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, the gift of the Father, the unction of love.

As announced, we will be praying a Novena in preparation for this solemn day from Friday May 27 to Saturday June 4. It is going to be individual/private, and the prayers are here given. We are encouraged to pray as families. It is composed of the opening song (if you can sing it that would really be great, otherwise simply recite) followed by the invocation of the Holy Spirit.

Hymn

1. Holy Spirit, Lord of Light,
From Thy clear celestial height,
Thy pure beaming radiance give:
Come, Thou Father of the poor!
Come, with treasures which endure!
Come, Thou Light of all that live!

2. Thou, of all consolers best,
Visiting the troubled breast,
Dost refreshing peace bestow;
Thou in toil art comfort sweet,
Pleasant coolness in the heat,
Solace in the midst of woe.

3. Light immortal! Light divine!
Visit Thou these hearts of Thine,
And our inmost being fill;
Where Thou art not, man hath naught,
Nothing good in deed or thought,
Nothing free from taint of ill.

4. Heal our wounds, our strength renew;
On our dryness pour Thy dew;
Wash the stains of guilt away;
Bend the stubborn heart and will;
Melt the frozen, warm the chill;
Guide the steps that go astray.

5. Thou, on those who evermore
Thee confess and Thee adore,
In Thy sevenfold gifts, descend:
Give them comfort when they die,
Give them life with Thee on high,
Give them joys that never end.

Amen.

Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and enkindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,
did instruct the hearts of the faithful,
grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise
and ever to rejoice in His consolation.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
